Mets Reinstate Juan Soto Without Minor-League Rehab Assignment
The New York Mets activated Juan Soto from the injured list on Saturday, returning him to the lineup after a left calf strain without sending him on a rehabilitation assignment.
The New York Mets reinstated Juan Soto from the injured list on Saturday, clearing the star outfielder to return as the team continued its series against the Houston Astros at Citi Field.
Soto came back without a minor-league rehabilitation assignment. He had repeatedly said he intended to play again during the 2026 season despite the Mets falling out of contention and conducting another sell-off at the trade deadline.
The 2026 campaign has included several injured-list stays for Soto, who signed a $765 million contract with the Mets. His latest absence began after he strained his left calf on July 24.
At the time of the calf injury, Soto was batting .283 with a .947 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. He had hit 21 home runs and driven in 52 runs.
The Mets placed Soto second in the batting order and used him as the designated hitter for his return. Infielder Eric Wagaman was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to create a roster spot.
