Irish regulators have issued an urgent safety warning regarding HAMAX baby seats sold by Decathlon due to a potential choking hazard. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued an urgent safety warning to Irish consumers regarding HAMAX baby seats sold by Decathlon, citing a significant choking hazard. The regulator confirmed that approximately 123 affected units are currently in circulation within the Republic of Ireland.

The safety concern centers on the fabric label attached to the harness strap of specific models. According to the CCPC, this textile label may not be securely fastened and could detach during use. If the label comes loose, a child may place it in their mouth, creating a risk of choking.

The warning applies specifically to HAMAX baby seats with model numbers 4091054 and 8591602, identifiable by the barcode 70297755203498. These items were sold at Decathlon Ireland between December 28, 2020, and August 6, 2026. The CCPC noted that seats without the specific fabric label on the shoulder harness strap are not affected by this recall.

Customers who purchased one of these products have been urged to stop using the seat immediately until the label has been removed. The regulator provided two options for addressing the issue: consumers can carefully cut the label off completely themselves, after which the seat can continue to be used safely. Alternatively, those who prefer not to remove the label can bring the product to any Decathlon store, where staff will remove it free of charge.

For further assistance or information regarding the recall, customers are directed to contact Decathlon’s Customer Relation Centre via email at [email protected]. The center is available from Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm.
